Maybe cats pluged up?? or other problem on vibration problem

89 bronco with a 5.0 with an auto, when sitting in park and you rev the engine up you get a pretty nasty vibration bout midway up the rpm range, also when driving if you get on it pretty good same rpm range you get the same nasty vibration.

Ive been doing some research on this and i am split between the tourqe converter and or the cats pluged up, also i have low power. i have also owned a 89 ford f150 with a 5.0 and know that the power it should have.

I would like to shoot my transmision as it shifts to low and goes into overdrive way to soon, i have no od off switch, and is there a overdrive eltric kick in i can put on a switch.

Any input would be a great help.

The shifting problem means you need to adjust the TV (throttle valve) cable, and that procedure is detailed in the Haynes manual.

The vibration could be the torque converter, flex plate, transmission, or engine. You'll have to do some more diagnosis.

Thanks, and the tv cable adjustment worked great.

But my 3000 rpm vibration is still present at park

and in gear, i was told could be build up in the tourqe converter

, could this be right or even remotly true.

It could be a problem with the engine it self. Like timing, needs a tune-up, Harmonic balancer. That's about all I can thinkk of!

I'd check EVERYTHING else 2 or 3 times before I pulled the TC, but if you haven't changed the fluid lately, you could drain everything (including pulling the plug from the TC) and see if it helps. Check your spark plug boots, dist cap, and plug wires (could be a spark leak) and all the other ignition components. Pull the codes and see if the computer has noticed it.

an 89 with auto has an overdrive selector...on the shifter, there is OD, D, and then 1. You could also call these "4" "3" and "1" and be just as accurate. OD is the fourth gear...non od is drive, or 3.
