all right i just bought a new (to me) 1985 f250 supercab that i plan on repainting this spring. its got a little surface rust here and there but no holes. i really like the looks of the 92-96 front ends and would like to put one on this. i know how to swap body panels but my question is how hard is it to swap this 92-96 sheet metal in place of the 85 parts. ive seen other trucks have done this but noone i know personally to talk to.what all do i need. i know fenders hood grill do i need the newer core support or will mine work bumper. do all the holes line up just need shimming or do i have to drill new holes. anything youall know about this will be greatly apreatated thanks.
I know one guy did this to his 86 F250 put a 95 front clip and even the box to i forget his name but im sure he will be here shortly to answer your question since he did it he also has a picture of it in his signature.... when he posts
It's easy, you will need the core support, fenders, hood, grill, lights, cowl panel, the plugs from the newer headlights, and the plugs from the corner lights as the newer front clip has 1 extra light per side than the old one. Everything bolts on with the exception of needing to bend the tabs a bit to get the cowl panel to attach, and the bottom bolts under the fenders. On the old fenders, the bolts go in vertically. On the newer fenders, the bolts go in horizontally. I simply used some small L-brackets which I bolted to the fender, and then to the truck. You will have to fabricate brackets to mount the bumper. My bumper is homemade, so it's all fabricated. The new fender will have all the same mounting holes as your old ones, so everything under the hood will bolt back up as it did before. You will also need to trim the inner fender plastic so it doesn't hang below the fender line. You will see when you get the new fenders on. Just disconnect your hood latch cable from the latch and it will reconnect to the new latch. You have any other questions, just ask.
ya dude your one of the ones ive seen here i hoped you would shed some light on thisso the cowl is different ok didnt know that thought it had to be fairly easy for all the trucks ive seen done do the body lines match up from fender to door i see you also replaced doors. i found a clip i can either get painted grill and bumper or chrome the wrecking yard has both 400 painted 500 chrome for the whole clip hood fenders grill bumper core support and the lights and wireing is all there they cut the wires at the firewall ill just have to tell them i need the cowl as well should i use the inner fenders as well since mine would need trimed
The body lines match up except at the bottom corners of the windshield, there will be a gap where the new fenders dont quite come up far enough to meet the pillar. I replaced my doors because they needed more body work than the new ones.
