Get a Ford OEM belt, the problem will go away. Be sure to tell them the right size. There are two of them, one is a tad bit smaller than the other, i went with the smaller one and it worked out perfect. The vibration was gone.

How do you technically check the tensioner pulleys for wear besides looking at them and spinning them freely?

The pair on our tensioner are making no noise at all with and without the new belt on.

Perhaps the spring within the tensioner creats harmonics due to age? I'm just throwing more possibilities in the mix.

Upon further inspection of the fan it seems there's less than 3/8" play on the clutch when pressing side to side on the pivot/post. I'll replace the fan clutch Tuesday. I been suspect of the fan clutch for some time now as the last time it locked was back in July 2006 when it was 128 degrees in Phoenix.

Had both HPOP O-rings go and a tire failure that same week out there.

Basically just try to wiggle the pullies from side to side and see if there is any movement. There should not be any

If its been that long since your fan clutch locked in, I would suspect it too.

Thanks for the tip on the pulleys Brandon

I picked up a Hayden 2837 fan clutch and new belt tensioner assembly in the event the clutch doesn't nip the problem.

Also picked up the clutch tool at the zone. I'll install it Weds morning. Crossing fingers we have it

I just noticed you're from the big D, Where is IZZY when you need him(another member that lives there.) I know that in Dallas being close is relative. (my wifes from Mesquite, and my BIL's live in Forney) I hope it all works out for you. Have you tried the fan clutch tool for size yet? ( my autozoo here had the one that was too small for the PSD) I believe it is lefty tighty, righty loosey on the fan clutch.

Most people don't know where Richardson is so I just say Dallas to keep it generallized

I have a A-zone store that opened recently and most of their rental tools are still in factory wrappers, the tool kit I got has the wrenches for any fan clutch including the 7.3L engine,I opened the case to be sure.

I think Izzy might make it to the Pulse HPOP install this Saturday which I'll get to meet him

I am sooooo jealous of yall. I have a core sitting in my shop that I bought off Ebay just for that occasion, but alas, Kids, Dogs, Wife, turbo, etc.... have eaten my set aside cash reserve for the pulse. I am waiting for sales spiffs to pay off and around mid summer I should have enough for the Pulse to rest under my hood. (unless Bob makes it to Smokin' and I get a wild hair)

"Honestly Honey, My HPOP went out when we got there, and this guy Bob just happened to have one " " I was lucky enough he had time to help install it for me so i could get home and take you and the kids camping for spring break"

Hey, it could happen.......

I've been to a few Alcatel microwave schools in Richardson and Plano. I'm envious of the Pulse HPOP! I sent Bob an email a while back, said I had money in hand and I would pay for his hotel! Who knows he might remember.

Me have big caveman hands, Hell, just rotating the tensioner to relieve belt pressure is a new adventure in pain with those blades.

turn the engine off

A long flex head ratchet makes belt adventures painless
Just put it in tensioner pull back and hook behind A/C pulley,do what is needed and release
