I had my muffler removed today. I took it to a local exhaust shop. They cut out the muffler and welded in a straight pipe. It took them about 20 minutes.
I was surprised at how little a difference it really made. It's a little louder at idle and you can hear the turbo a little more. I will be ordering the cat delete pipe soon. I added pictures in my gallery.
Yes, the cat delete will make it louder, but not like a set of Glasspacks on a gas V8. The turbo actually does more of the quieting than anything. You won't get good volume until you go to a 4" exhaust.
I put my Bullydog turbo back 4" system on two years ago. Muffler delete, but I left the cat in, -modified the opening/outlet. Loud enough for me.
I wonder how much exhaust is NEEDED for the engine and how much is for sound?
If the cat is the bottle neck in the system, does it matter if you have a 3", 3 1/2"
or a 4" down pipe? Same question for the cat back size, does it really matter?
As far as Performance and EGT, would any system outperform a stock system with Walker BTM and cat delete?
I heard a 03 with muffler delete today, still very quite.
As someone who bought too much exhaust before, I warn you be carefull.
