Hello. Has anyone heard of all the glow plugs not working due to a bad connection in the main plug which name escapes me. Anyway, I had a mechanic in south dakota cross the gp relay and tell me that it is 95% of the time the wire in the big multi wire plug isnt making contact. He said to "pull it out and flatten it a little and it will work. Everyone else will tell you to replace the whole assembly." OK, where is that plug and by the way it was a gray wire. He had an old harness and showed me.
Welcome to FTE. A little more info would help us help you. If it is the F-350, you might get more answers in the 99-2003 PSD forum down the page a bit.

Welcome to FTE.
If you have a glow plug relay, it's mounted on the top of the engine.
I don't know much about the 2003's but some of them have a glow plug module instead of a glow plug relay which makes it a whole different animal.

The PCM is what gives the GPR the ground connection to activate. He must be referring to the multi-pin plug that connects the GPR to the PCM. I suppose a faulty or loose connection here could keep the GPR from closing but most of the GPR problems we find here are due to a voltage drop across the contacts caused by arcing and age.
Thats it. The pcm multi pin plug. A mechanic showed me one from his bench and said the wires sometimes corrode or otherwise lose good contact. Most places replace the multi plug at considerable expense when it may be rectified much easier. OK, next question , where is it and can any damage be done by unplugging it and checking it out? He also showed me the wire it is which is the grey one. By the way, it is an 02, not 03. Thannks to all, what a great source of knowledge to be able to tap into...
Yes, that would make sense. All he did was provide a ground path for the GPR to activate. It would have been the same as the PCM would have done. The PCM provides the ground connection for the relay coil, which causes the relay contacts to close, providing high current 12V to continue down to the Glow Plugs.
So, very possible it is the connection in the pcm and not the relay? Now all I haveto do is find the pcm multi plug and check it out.. Thanks... u got the same ride only I have the crew, 4" exhaust and soon to have the 6637. Any advice on that??
Its very unlikely that it is the PCM plug, if it happens to be the problem, it will be the first i've heard of it. The PCM connector harness is located on the driver's side of the firewall, the PCM is actually inside the cab but the connector is on the outside. Right below the brake master cylinder you will find a connector, remove(loosen, it wont come out all the way) the 10mm bolt and wiggle off the connector. good luck.

Shanesdad, although it is your post and you can hijack it all you want, you will get better results starting a new thread specific to your problem.
Ok, there are several possible sources of your leak. It could be fuel mixing with grime on the engine valley making it look black, or it will be oil. Both will pool in the valley and drain down the back via a hole and appear near the tranny inspection cover behind the pan. Your first step is an inspection of the fuel bowl and lines as well as the HPOP and lines to the heads. Also, if it is pooling in the back only look at the turbo pedestal for possible oring failure there. At any rate, a good cleaning/degreasing will help pinpoint the leak which I believe you will find up top.
