Ford's offerings these days don't impress me. I only visit my dealer because they discount my parts purchases.
I'd kill for 18mpg at 75 mph. I get 16 at best with the 6.0 PSD in my '05. My wife really likes the fold down seats and the lower ride height of the EL but she knows I won't give up the Powerstroke. I wish they still made the Excursion with the newer engines (although I hear the 6.4's get even worse mileage than the 6.0's) and the coil spring front end.

I owned a 2000 Excursion V10. Best city was 10-11, best highway was 13.5 - 14.

Are you saying the EL gets worst gas economy than the V-10 Excursion? What is wrong with the trans on the EL?

The trans is horrible in the EL. But I will say the quality (except for trans) in the EL is awesome, the ride is so smooth, the seating is rather comfortable and I love the safety features. That is one thing that is holding me back from buying the Excursion again. I am tall and I never felt like I would have the correct neck support in the Excursion especially in the rear seats. I used to have an 03 Expy and that was a POS...

Also in my Excursion (V10) I got 14-15 MPG mostly city and the EL gets a lousy 11.6 city.

I have a lemon so mine probably doesnt count. My trans is horrible, takes about 5 seconds to kick into gear at a stop sign, slips from 2 to 3rd, harsh engagment and so on. In order to get going from a stop I either have to give it a lot of gas or pray to go that I dont get hit as I roll into an intersection. They have tried to fix it and now are resorting to it's normal! I have been told by the dealer that they would buy it back but my lease is up in Oct so who bother.

The New Expy El is by far the best SUV EXCEPT for the trans. I just have a bad taste in my mouth right now for it, that is why I would rather get a used X till maybe 2010MY or 2011MY.
