Hello, I didn't see this anywhere and i've often wondered about this once or twice before. I ws over at the KBB website to see the reatail value on my '90 Aerostar XL - anyways, it asked me to choose between extended minivan and extended window minivan. What's the difference? I thought they were the same thing.
The wagon: Has 3 rows of seats and an interior, along with the gass side windows and the rear lift gate.
The window van: No seats or interior, but has the side glass windows. The rear could be lift gate or side-by-side doors with glass windows.
The cargo van: No seats, interior, nor side glass windows. The rear is most likely side-by-side doors, with or without glass windows.
There were other variations on the rear door(s), but the cargo vans did not have side glass behind the front doors.
Each level of options added different market values to the van.
On a slightly related topic, I saw an older Aerostar in the scrap yard last week that had flip-out glass on all the the windows except for the normal slide-down glass in the front doors. Unfortunately, it was a shorty, so the rear glass would not have fit mine, but it would have been nice to be able to have ventillation capabilities in the rear of the van. Yes, it also had those tiny flip-out triangular side glass beside the dash, but the mechanisms were completely broken, so I did not try to pull them.
OOPS...we just got hit with an earthquake...be back soon
wow - where are you at xlt? Reminds me of my days in southern cali. Anyhow, so the extended window van would be the extended passenger variation? That makes sense.
Yes, there was an extended window van. I once thought about getting such a vehicle to start with in order to install a custom interior. But upon examining one, I found it would have needed too much work to make it a reasonable passenger van, ie, a "wagon". It was easier to get a wagon and strip it down.
Yes, I am in Southern California. Today's little pulse was centered a little outside of Idylwild in San Diego.
heh - ok. i was just curious as to the differences between the two types. I'm origionaly from the upper high desert(17 years in 29 palms) and know alot about them earthquakes. I was at my auties in orange county for the big 7.4 in 1992 i think it was - somewhere around there.
