put a jack under the pan w/maybe a block of wood on it to keep it level, unbolt the pan, and lower the jack slightly then tip it into a drain pan, call autozone/advanced/oreilly to find out how much to put back in...
Take all the bolts out except a couple on one side. Get the pan started if the gasket is stuck, and then slowly loosen the remaining bolts, letting it tilt down slowly.
If this sounds like it is going to make a mess, it is. There is no other way I know of to do it. After you get the pan off, you will still have little drips of oil coming off the valve body for about 20-30 minutes, getting on your arms, etc. It's a lot of fun.
P.S. Pull the cover off the torque convertor, and see if you have an access hole in the flexplate that has a plug in it. You might have to bump the starter over to see it. If you do have the plug, you can drain the torque convertor and replace ALL the fluid. If you do it this way, it will take about 13-14 quarts of fluid.
I just changed the filter in my C-6. I put the front end on jack stands and loosened all the bolts. Left a couple in the front. Then put a big Rubbermaid tote under the tranny. Took out all the bolts but the front 2 and let the pan drop down and just pour into the tote. Kept loosening the front bolts while it kept draining. The only oil I got on the driveway was what dripped off my hands.
Still gotta clean up the tote, but I'll pour the oil up into the bottles let it drain down and then wipe it out with rags. It's a tote I keep in the garage for holding old parts from the truck anyway so it don't gotta be spotless.
Go to a store (party, grocery, etc.) and buy one of those plastic tablecloths. The disposable kind... spead it out under the entire area 'cause if you're like the rest of us klutzes you're going to make a mess. After you're done just roll it up and *****can it.
Take your time with the pan bolts as the fluid will slop out quickly once it starts to flow.
You can buy a drain plug kit from most any of the parts stores or from Summit or Jegs ect.Just have to drill a hole in the pan at the proper place.Have used them, and they work fine.
