I hate to ask but what goes wrong with the ****. I am sure since it runs of of electronics and not good ol' reaching over and pulling back on a lever that they whear out. But it's a ford right? It's supposed to be tough.

The **** is nice and convenient until the vacuum operated front hubs suck in water and ruin the front bearings. And you cannot simply buy new bearing and replace them. You have to buy the entire hub assembly. $300.00 aprox per side just for the parts.

And to add to Kwiks response, If your air conditioner ever starts blowing out of your defroster, and not the panel vents then you have a vacuum leak, or a bad pump. The same pump controls the air diverter for the A/C controls that controls the engagement of the 4X4..... Just thought you should know.
Be not so happy young skywalker about the **** because soon a day will come that curse the ****, you will.
Now that's funny. But as the next post inferes. At least we have this place to come to when it DOES happen. I can still remember that horrible day...The day I found out I couln't just remove the electric POS from the side of my transfer-case and mount a shift lever through the hump...Oh well...
As far as the switch goes, I don't think so. But with the hubs yes. Remove the rubber tube that runs from the inner fender-well to the nuckle. Plug both ends with rubber vacuum caps. Then, replace OEM auto/lock hubs with WARN Premiums.
Edit: And don't ever be afraid to ask on here. This place is your friend, this place is your friend, tttthiiiiiiisssss ppppllllllaaaaacccce is your friend. Remember that when PMS kicks in......WWhhhheeeeen PPPPPPmmmmmmsssss kiiiiicks innnnnn.....
Nope, gotta get my butt out of the seat and "lock'em in". But on a cool note, ever want a "low range" but not be in 4x4? Now you can do it with these beautiful manual hubs....http://www.warn.com/truck/hubs/premium_hubs.shtml
that is no different then the ones I have on there now. They are factory but you still have to turn them to lock them on the wheels and then get back in and throw it in 4x4. So it's not completley automatic.
Except if you're using the OEM hub, when you turn the switch it's sucking air at the vacuum leak or just letting moisture in through the dry rotted tube from the fender to the nuckle.
