Hey guys, I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 7.3 and found my stock heads had cracks, way to big to fix! so i found another set of heads on sat. which i pulled off a siezed 7.3 and looked at them before i paid the guy and didn't see any visible cracks, took them to the head shop to be gone through and found they were cracked too! does anybody know a good place to get a set of used heads or rebuilt heads because i think im not having much luck?
I would try ebay myself, and after being burned once, I'd make the seller guarantee them by offering a refund if they are not. Ebay or anyone else. That sucks! How much time and money did that little setback cost your project? If that happened to me, it'd probably make me mad enough to buy new ones anyway. Is there such a thing as an aftermarket performance head for these? Diesel perfomance is pretty hot trend now, I''ve seen some wicked cool **** myself. Ever seen a 4-door diesel run mid 11's?
Unfortunately the way the heads are removed makes the difference between cracked or not.....in most cases. Removal is reverse pattern ie 17 down to 1 and 1/8th of a turn per bolt per completed pattern..... usually takes 3 times around.
thats true i didn't even think about the reverse pattern on removing them! It definately set me back some money even though i only paid 250 for what i thought were good heads it is 250 i could have invested somewhere else on the truck. I will try ebay, thanks guys.
