What's the deal with the K&N airfilter? I was under the impression that they were one of the best. Then read that they actually let dust into you air system due to the small holes in the filter itself.
And topping that read that the factory setup provides all the air intake that the 5.4 could possibly take in, if that's the case is a CAI worth adding?
I am currently using the factory air intake however I am considering a CAI
so I could use a little help in this area and here are a few question.
('05 Screw FX4 F150 5.4 everything stock)
1. What are a few of the best air filters? (factory intake for now)
2. Will a better quality air filter increase preformace/mpg?
2. Does a CAI actually increase preformance or MPG?
3. Should I spend my money on another mod. first?
1. If you do get a CAI, I recomend getting a Volant. I hear good things about them, plus they are sealed, so if you splash around in some water you will not drowned out your engine.
2. It will increase performance some, but you probably will not notice.
2.
3. I highly recomend adding some dual exhaust (MagnaFlow) and adding an Edge tuner. The combination of the two will wake your truck up.
take anything you read with the same grain of salt as anything you hear...there's plenty of people armed with plenty of anecdotal evidence proving the inferiority of an air filter and there's plenty of people armed with anecdotal evidence proving the superiority of the same filter
people will argue about the most inconsequential minutia forever...just buy what you like
that being said, the 5.4 breathes pretty well stock, but a kit can provide gains at mid to higher rpms based upon what i've experienced and the data i've encountered
My advice, leave it alone until you warranty has expired. Especially with an aftermarket tuner. Read you owner's manual on what can void the warranty. Besides, if your truck is running good, why mess with it. Save your money for a nice night out!
