electric shift problem

Hi all. I just got a 94 bronco with push button 4x4. It wasn't working when I got it, and I happened to have a new motor for an 89 bronco, so I swaped it. Now it will shift to 4 hi normaly, but sometimes it will kick itself into nuetral while driving. Usually after I let off the gas. I have to stop and shut off the motor to shift back to 2 wheel drive without grinding. Any ideas or info would be appreciated. Thanks; Don

4Hi is on the same cam as the HI and Low range reduction. You might crawl under the truck and see if there is play on the shaft but I doubt you will be able to tell very much from outside the transfer case. Basically, you could have a cam problem, range reduction fork, or even the planetary gear set is worn badly. You can not tell what it is with out taking the transfer case out and disassembling it.
