Heater core problem!

Bought a new core a Autozone and went to put it in and its a half inch too tall!
The old one at the top has two humps in toward the middle where the tubes come in and one hump on the bottom center. The new one looks square and is too tall for the box it sits in. Has anyone else run into this? I tried Orileys auto parts and thiers are the same.

yup. they gave you the wrong core. take your old one in with you, and let them match it up with the pictures in the book. you must remember, most parts counter people are as dumb as a box of rocks, and only know what the book says anymore.

Got mine from O'Reilly last year. It was not the exact same shape as OEM but fit fine.

I just replaced mine in the '86 and it did not look exactly the same, but it fit in the housing and worked just fine.

My heatercore "box" has a little curve at the top left and the core seems to be a little tall for thr "box". Is there a trick to getting this core back in?

The one I got from AdvanceAuto was squared. The one that came out was kind of rounded at the top. I meant to get into that on my last post, but my wife came in and was yapping something at me and if I don't make eye contact, I popped in the back of the head.

Anyway. So the one that was in the truck had a relative "roundness to it on the top end. The new one did not. So it was basically taller. But it fit in there. I mean, it didnt have a bunch of room to move around or anything, I had to kind of push it in. But it did fit.

Scurbie. I think you may have the wrong one... I just get that feeling. Because the differences on mine were noticable, but not something I couldnt work with.
But then, I'm a redneck too. If it hadnt fit, I would have broke out the duct tape and made it work..

Mine was rounded at the top and the new one is square but when it did'nt go back in I did'nt want to force it.I'll try again and see what happens. As far as the wife I know what you mean-16 years together and four kids and another from my first marrige makes five ,Shes 20 and made me a grandpa last year,I'm only 39and grandpa sounds to wierd for me.You learn to tone them all, wife included, out.If not you'll be news at eleven.
P.S. Drink beer it helps. My sanity in a can.

I had to kind of push the new one in. But it wasnt one of those situations where I had to pry it in or anything like that.
Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.

I have to change out a core on my F-250 in the next week or so. I've decided to kind of tinker with it some and get it to where I can use it as a back up if something happens...
