I HATE paying retail for car parts, or anything for that matter. I'm a frugal SOB when it comes to car parts. If I can get an AC/delco filter for $4 at an autoparts store, And I can get it for 3.50 at work, I buy one at work. Same products only, not brand subsitituions (unless on REALLY cheap parts... $8.99 brake pads... hahahahahahaha)
Anyways, my uncles long time friend has been a bigwig in a large parts chain for about 15 years... Through him, I got a rear set of OEM gm pads, and rotors, for $30 (on my 89 toronado) Pads 41.99, Rotors $32 each... BOYAH
unfortionatly, he's retiring soon, and I wont have a hookup for cheap good quality car parts anymore. Anybody have suggestions for this 16 year old greasy fingered mechanic that doesnt own a vehicle that was new in his lifetime?
tks alot

I might be able to help a little, next time you need something visit my web site.
I've had good business with www.rockauto.com. Good prices and they carry a variety of brands, so you can choose according to your budget. They also send you discounts from time to time after you have bought something from them.
O Reilly auto parts always has what I'm looking for and their parts seem better than most of the cheap parts stores and the prices won't break the bank. It depends on what I'm looking for most of the time. If I'm worried about quality and don't want to hit the dealership I head to NAPA, followed by O'Reilly.
I have a part time job at an auto parts store, I work 3-5 hours one day a week just so I can have the 20% discount. I also get first dibs on new stuff that comes in.
After 30 years of wrenchin' for a living I don't believe in "cheap parts". You get what you pay for. If you can find a better price on a name-brand part at one of those discount parts stores, go for it. Other than that I wouldn't touch the stuff. Just my two cents.
Ditto on RockAuto! They have just about anypart for any car/truck. Most of the "discount" stores like O'Reilly's, Autozone, and Advanced Auto Parts dont carry everything. Most dont list it or cant even special order it. RockAuto always has it! Try asking the discount guys for a master cylinder or caliper rebuild kit! They'll sell you a crappy rebuilt unit, but dont offer the kit.
Here is a discount number from my last order. They say its good for anyone i know who works on cars, so here it is for all of FTE!
Your discount code is: 573882522189
Here's how to use it: * Enter your code in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart. * If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Set" button to the right of the field. * Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total.
