hi all
just a quick question has anyone out there swaped a single cab long box body with a extended cab short box?? is this even possable?? i havent mesured the truck yet, so i dont even know if the wheel wells will line up?
im a avid welded and fabucator so moving body mounts will not be a problem, i was just wondering is anyone out there had done this and if so what issues did you run in to
any help would help me out a lot
thanks a lot guys
ps both bodies are 91 f250
I know the reg. cab long box wheel base is 133 inches. I think the ext. cab short box is a little longer. I am not sure. Just going off my memory. Look in your owners manual to find out for sure. Just out of curiosity, why are you doing this? Bad frame or something?
I was going to do something similar with my 78. i was going to put a crew cab body and stub the bed in the front, and notch out the rear cab corners to clear the tires. but ended up selling the truck to a buddy before getting that far. it would have been like having a fullsize sporttrac. i think you'll have the shorten the front side of the bed some to make the wheelwells line up properly. i don't know about you but i was going to do it just to have more cab space and still have a short truck. bobbing the bed didn't matter cause i never towed anything in it anyway. wish i'd kept the truck now, it would have been one of a kind.
I cant remember where I saw it (it was a while ago) but I saw what must have been a late 70s regular cab longbox at one time, but was now a crew cab super short box. the crew cab came almost back to the rear wheel well, pretty awesome looking though - imagine something with similiar proportions to a chevy avalanche, but an awesome late 70s ford. it was pretty cool looking, so i guess it can be done.
If you're an experienced welder and fabricator, you shouldn't have any problems making it work,, it might take a little more effort and a bit of stretching here or there, but you can bet it's going to be a one off type deal and if you're willing to put it together will most likely be worth it. There's nothing that can't be fabricated. I'm currently putting a set of T tops out of an 87 Iroc in a 77 El Camino, not the easiest fab, but going well.
