Auto Lockers to Premium Warn conversion
Finally getting around to working on these this week.
After 3 trips to Tool Town I FINALLY got the right socket to take off the old spindle nut.
Apparently the auto hubs on my '92 are from a '95 because that is the description in the Haynes manual and on the socket as well. 2-3/4" rounded.
I have a Dana 50 with a build date of 3/92 on it so I must have the stock axel but newer Auto locking hubs???
The old hubs were full of rancid grey grease.
Struggling with the new hubs. Could not get the keeper clip to lock in. Less then 1/32 of an inch shy of enough clearance.
Still struggling with this.
I went out tonight and tried the other side.
Slipped the lockers in...Pried out the axel shaft...popped the small snap ring in and with a light *click* it set right in.
Next the outer keeper ring....No friggin luck!
Pushed..Pulled...Tapped gently with other tools...Nothing would get the large portion of the locker in far enough to get the large keeper ring in place.
The instructions told me to put the "thrust washers" back in. If i had left ehm out everything would have fit in very nicely. By thrust washers I mean: thin steel washer, thin plastic washer, and thin steel washer with inner serrations to go over the axel shaft.
Can I throw any part of these 3 things away and not totally screw everything up?
Can anyone help me out???
Next step is pull everything out and start the process over. Would rather avoid that.
Too friggin cold out to be messing with it more than necessary.
