Talking Smog Pump Supercharger!!!

ok, this may sound insane, but what if we put a 2 inch pully on a smog pump?
and then route it into to the intake manifold?

I bet it would put out a bit o air eh?
any thoughts?

more than likely it would seize up from spinning too fast..before it did anything to make more power.. these things do not move very much air no matter how fast they are spun...

Yes the needle bearings on the vanes wouldn't last long at high speed. I have to give the author credit it is quite an idea.

I wonder which is better a smog pump or a leaf blower supercharger? No harm in thinking about it though, it's this type of creative thinking that leads to new things.

You need a pump that works on high volume and high pressure. The smog pump and leaf blower work on low pressure. I have also thought of a alternative to a super/turbo charger. I was looking for a high pressure air pump that runs on 12 or 24 volts.

My son and I are getting ready to try a turbo with the exaust side removed and belt driven off the engine on his Y-block. You never know untill you try!

I was thinking the same thing, except it was with a leaf blower and a lawn tractor lol.....but its the same as a centrifugal supercharger, you might need to pully the heck out of it tho. Since the centrifugal s/c's have gearing to increase blower speed.

Just finished turning the adapter on my lathe. Have to build the brackets next. Then I'll spin it up and see just how much boost pressure and CFM it puts out before we install it on the 312.

That turbo project sounds fun.
I hope you have a very small pully for the turbo. Turbos can spin at 100 to 150k RPM's and beyond. But thats just for peak boost. A fresh oil supply will be important too.
Good luck

I put a smog pump on a 5HP Briggs & Stratton... welded a carb
flange on the intake side and connected it to the engine with
some hose. It worked well until the headgasket blew- I
couldnt keep a headgasket in it more than a couple hours...
It was fun while it lasted!

Shoulda richened it up a bit to try and keep the headgasket in place. It probably went lean and the cylinder pressure shot up thus popping the headgasket.
