Help! I replaced my heater core the other day and this morning was the first time I had actually driven anywhere since. My heater didnt seem to blow very hot air. The smell was gone and the fog on the windows didnt show up from the leak before... but how do i check to see if my coolant is circulating through my core properly? The hoses feel VERY warm but I cant really tell if fluid is being pushed through them or not. also... my radiator seems full yet doesnt flow over into my overflow resevoir. did I do something wrong... should I just put some more distilled water in the overflow resevoir?
If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Peace

Yea, you may have to top it off a couple of times before completely full. I wouldn't really worry too much about the overflow. Once you get the radiator full just fill it to the line. After your Bronco heats up or after you drive it awile, your upper radiator hose should feel pretty tight like it is under pressure. Mianly because it IS under pressure. I replace my radiator cap every 3 or 4 years because sometimes the rubber gasket / membrane cracks and won't hold proper pressure.
I'm probably going to do my heater core sometime this Spring since it has never been done on mine. Was it a pretty straight forward replacement like everyone says it is ?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jan-03 AT 04:31 PM (EST)]Definitely very easy to replace the heater core... but then again, I say that and I am asking question on whether or not I did it correctly! ha
Very simple, I am a definite novice when it comes to mechanics and I did it...
as far as my coolant goes. I checked it this morning when the engine was cold (it had sat all day and all night) and some coolant came out. it was full... but the overflow resevoir was almost empty... should I just pour some more distilled water in there? also, is there a way to make sure my heater core is getting fluid. someone said something about a valve, but I couldnt find one. I have an 89 and dont think they had one. but I could definitely be wrong.
I have a five hour drive back to school I have to make friday so getting this figured out would be nice...
thanks for all your help guys. This site, forum, and people in this forum are a lifesaver and my new best friends...
thanks again
Peace

If you haven't done so already, replace the radiator cap. After flushing and backflushing to get more heat, I had the same "little heat" as you. I replaced the cap (13#) and now I can roast myself out if I choose!
