Hi All & Welcome to the 67-72 forum, There are aftermarket units available from several manufacturers. Ford first used them about 78 in the Lariat, so the 78-79 are direct fits with the Ford/Saginaw steering gear 73-79.

E series on up into the 90s can be modified to fit. You will need to take about 6 1/2" out of the length. This one is not a grab and run. The skill level requirement is much higher to make it work.

hope this helps a little

John

I am interested in putting a tilt column in my 71 f250 (2x4). I would also like to shorten it up some. Does anyone know of a solution for that? At the risk of being kicked off this site I will say I have read somewhere about using a column from a 70’s Chev. But I can’t remember where I saw it.

whitetrash, I see you took the risk anyways.

I installed one out of a '79. The column bolted right in. It's got a plastic 'housing' though, and I had to trim it to fit around the dash.

The 78/79 F-series tilt will fit but require wiring modifications as the NSS was moved to the Transmission in 78.

There is an article using the tilt column from a T-bird but I lost that page when FTE went from DC forum to Vbulletin

It aint no biggie, really!
