New 6 speed auto?

I don't know if this article was posted before:
http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/auto...ord/page1.html
They are interviewing Todd Eckert, Ford Trucks Marketing Manager
They also talk about a new 6 speed auto which I think is a suprise.
Has any one else heard about this new 6 speed auto?

Interesting.. first I've heard of that. Maybe they just unlocked that other gear in the current one, or revised it somehow.

A six speed would be REAL nice especially if you have the 4.30 or 4.88 axle ratio

That is strange that he would state that. Now the Expedition has a new 6-speed auto, but all the printed material I have from Ford on the 2008 Super Duty states a 5-speed auto.

I've noticed that way too often corporate spokespeople make things up on the fly because they seem to be too stupid to understand their product. I think this is one of those times.

I think this 6 speed thing is a rumor...

I have not heard anything from my sources of a 6 speed either. But on the other hand it sure would be nice if they stepped up to the plate and brought one out

OK, of those that have been fortunate enough to drive an '08. Did it have a 6-speed?

Mine will, but you will have to operate it with your right hand and left foot.

I am not sure why he said 6 speed auto in that interview. I am sure he was just repeating the question and didn't catch himself. Anyway, a 6 speed is in the works, but not for the 08 model.

I talked to a GM tech last year when the LBZ came out with the 6speed Allison. I asked him about it and he said in a nutshell they just modified the Torque converter lockup programming, making a slightly higher perceived top-gear. Maybe if this is true, Ford would be able to do something similar with the current 5speed.

You can't change the torque converter to make another gear. That's like changing the seat covers to make a bigger engine. If you understand how a transmission works you'd know that the GM tech was either stupid or yanking your chain. It isn't possible.

Well I think Ford better look at a 6sp auto for fuel mileage, the new Dodge is getting one and the thing only turns about 1700 rpm at 75 mph with the 3.73 FD. The Dodge, I'm afraid, will smoke the Ford at the pumps.
