Well, i took the drive shaft down again because i have a horrible vibration under light throttle beginning at 45-70. More fuel and the vibration disappears so i figure ill look at the last u-joint i did not replace. Get it down and there is no binding noises or anything saying it bad there is no play either. So I spun the carrier bearing since it was off the truck neways. It spun like when i had it hanging off the end of a bench it would spin like half way. Its making horrible noises grinding and such. Does this mean its bad? The rubber insulator looks fine but i think the bearing is trashed.
I had an old chebby car that had a carrier bearing, it went out several times. i remember it would shake under throttle, yea kinda like the whole car is comming apart... I believe it is because the drive shaft under load wants to rise up toward the truck, and what you are feeling is the bearing slapping in the race... I am sure someone else will chime in though...
Crew Cab, Long Bed, yea, replace that carrier bearing. It doesn't take much for that whole thing to get out of balance if that bearing isn't doing its job.
And me as well, I just replaced all three u-joints and the carrier bearing for driveline vibration. Smooth as glass now.
You'll need someone to press the old bearing off. It's on there very securely.
I had to cut the bottom out of my press to accomidate the length of the driveline. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...t-er-done.html
might have been worth the 30 for you to kwikk..did you get that back together so you wont go though that again??. i did all 3 u joints and the carrier bearing on my shaft as well..i cant see putting old with new parts..just dont seem to last as long..
Modding my press only cost me about 1/2 hour of time and that included welding it back together. It was 8:00pm and it was going to get done no matter what. It was my ride home!
Well i replaced the carrier bearing. The shaking as gotten a little less violent but it diffently still there. The u-joints check out good. I just had the tires rotated and balanced 2300 miles ago. I checked out the front suspension parts all check out good as well. What else should i check.
And the carrier bearing was badd. After i got the rubber insulator off, i spun the bearing and it had a ton of play in it. The start off vibration i had is almost non exsistent.
