No A/C to A/C

Hey Guys,

I know this is a weird time to be talking about A/C but I been thinking about trying to add to the truck. I was hoping you guys could tell me what parts I would need to purchase to make it happen. Are there some parts I should or could purchase new rather then the junkyard? If anyone had a diagram so I could compare what is under my hood vs. an A/C version (96' 302). Please bare with me as I am not familiar with A/C systems in general so I don't know all the parts required for a complete system.

Oh...what about the fan settings cluster do I need a new one since mine doesn't the right settings. And also I have a buddy who said this swap is quite diffcult as ther is alot of plumbing that needs to be added.

Thanks for the help,
Evs

i would suggest selling your non-ac truck and buying a truck w- air.

it would be cheaper and easier to do in the long run.

Quicklook2,

I thought about it and your probably right. But trucks like mine are hard to find in my area and standard transmission are down right rare. Not to memtion my truck is so "minty". A/C isn't a huge deal to me but would be nice.

Thanks for the help guys,
Evs

they sell a kit that mounts under the dash (evaporator&blower) then you mount the condensing coil in front of rad. run lines and its pretty easy the name of the place in phoenix is AARP i think its at 19th ave & grand & mcdowell where they all come togather. its a blue bldg. i think the kit was 1200 bucks

an under dash one would be not too hard to put in.

the way you asked your question i thought you wanted to put in the stock type unit, that is a lot of work.

the ad-on under dash a/c unit is easier. i think it's called vintage air that makes one, but don't know about the specific applications, only downside is they take up space under the dash, best bet on a stock unit would be to buy an entire parts truck and slowly transfer the parts. that way you know you've got everything you need. i might be wrong but it shouldn't matter what type of motor you or the donor vehicle have, everything should be the same EXCEPT the hoses that will run to and from the compressor on the motor since it is usually in different mounting locations for different motors.

They make a slim line unit thats not very big to go under the dash only takes up 3-4" room. make a couple holes for the line set they also make them with a heater core in them too if someone was needing heat too

Check out the movie Larry the Cable Guy,
And when you do, pay close attention to his truck,
Build a rack, have a power inverter instld and buy an a/c unit
like one in his truck.
So joking aside i would agree with quicklook2 on the sell one to
get the other.

Go to ACKits.com. Arizona Mobile Air. I bought a kit for my 87 F150 from them and it is still going strong. I have had it fo 4 or 5 years now. It was all factory ford parts, included everything needed. I went for the 134a system, took about 3 hours to install all the parts. I found a shop that would charge it, they told me what to connect and when to come down. I bought a few cans of 134a, cruised down to their shop, they charged it for me and I have been cool ever since. The kit was 728 dollars. I would have had to put together an R12 system out of the junkyard and R12 is like gold now days. It was going to be around 400 dollars just for the JY parts, I would have purchased new hoses, new filter dryer, o-ring kit and who knows about the compressor, you may get a good one you may get a pile of junk. The 728 dollars seemed like a lot at first but it was worth it to have a nice system anyone can work on, warranty and works great. The Arizona Mobile Air people were very nice and helpful as well.

Hey Guys,

Yeah was kinda hoping to do a junkyard swap more or less. An after market unit is kinda appealing but I did not realize how much they were. I can just life without it for now, maybe when I have space for a donor truck I'll try a swap. Thanks for the suggestions and websites guys.
