Just signed up for the forum. I just picked up an 84 F150 for cheap and it ran and drive, but after I let it sit a couple of days it won't start. I checked the battery connections and they seem fine. Then I checked the grounds and they were pretty bad so I cleaned them up and still no juice. I'm thinking it might be fusible link I found one that seems to have burnt up. My question is what is the best way to replace the link? Should I just use the same gauge wire? Should I put a fuse in line? Any help is appreciated I need to get the truck running asap.
Do not replace it with the same gauge wire. If there is a short, it may destroy your wiring, or it may even start a fire. Why not replace the fusible link with a new fusible link? I bought a couple of packages of fusible link at the local auto parts store for a few bucks.
The best way to change the link is just cut it out and put a new one in. That sounds a awful lot like a bad battery though. Will it jump start after it sits?
You need to replace the Fuse link with the same exact gauge fuse link.
These are avaliable at most auto parts stores.
The grounding problem could have caused the link to blow, but be prepared for the new one to also blow, and if it does, then you will need to find the wiring problem.
It wouldnt hurt to inspect all the wiring just to be safe anyhow. Check it for rubs cuts, funny marks etc...
