New engine
Can the 99 PCM accept the most recent/available 2v V10 "tune" from Ford? I imagine it would but...
Some are two piece aluminum and plastic, some look all aluminum, and some look 100% thermo plastic
Admittedly I never have personally taken one off a motor to see for myself the configuration and port dimensions side by side, although over the years, here, and on the diesel site, there were quite a few pictures posted showing side by side. To me it looks like there are two distinct intake to head port shapes, one being more squarish, and one being kinda round oval
I am sure there are some improved flow dynamics but only because Ford calls the heads PI.... Performance Improved or Power Improved depending on the literature you find.
Ref the firmware updates... looking on the MotorCraft (MC) site and playing with the various "calibration codes" I see that there are distinctions between model year and vehicle type... by this it seems to me there are physical differences in the E series PCM vs the F series and what code numbers they list for the differences.... same across model years... If you have played with the code look up tables and software that MC site has (anybody can play with it) you will see what I mean...
That said, I have never played with tracking a code for say a 2001 and then did a second tracking for the same truck but 99 and compared for same code offered
The way the tables are laid out is horrible
Check it out if you feel like getting a head ache
On MotorCraft com go to "technical resources"
Left side go to "Quick Guides"
Scroll down to "Latest Calibration Information"
On that page learn how to look up a calibration code
At the bottom is a link for looking up the latest calibration for a particular vehicle
I suggest any one who thinks that the Ford Service Technicians are ignorant or stupid should go through this drill... you will come away with a greater understanding why it is that they have no clue...

Oh...seems what you are referring to is what I call an intake manifold. There a definant differences in those over the years. I was thinking you were talking about the air filter housing...what I think of as the "airbox".
