bucking on deccel...Tranny or engine problem?
hey erryone. i have a 86 F150 w/ the 300 I6 and a 3 spd auto (not sure what tranny that is). When it is in drive, and I slow down (under 10mph), I get a really hard kicking like it is trying to kick into gear, and if I don't put it into neutral then it will stall the engine. i thought it might be a carb problem (vac. issue?) that is causing the engine to rev, engaging the clutches, but it does not rev, just kicks and bucks until it stalls or i put it in neutral. Can anyone offer any advice? someone I talked to guessed it might be the converter going bad, could that be it? Thanks in advance...

As a 24 year owner of a 300, I can tell you I've experienced alot of things, and bucking was an issue once. Since I had the original carb and egr valve on it at that time, I decided to change them out. That solved the problem. That may narrow your search. Check that the carb hold-down nuts are tight, theyre known to loosen, allowing air in, leaning out the mixture. Good luck.
