I went to pick up my Bronco from the shop getting a rear end put in, and when I got in the truck, Low and Behold Someone ripped off my Stereo System. My custom Console Phoenix Gold Sub Box- Phoenix Gold ZX450 4 Channel Amp- and my Coleman 3000 watt power inverter. Total investment- $1500 in equipment.
I think the shop left my truck unlocked on the lot. I do have an alarm with quad sirens, but I guess they didn't arm it either. There were no broken windows and I didn't see any Jimmy marks on the window.
Whats funny is, they left my pioneer head unit and all my CD's. The face plate and remote to the radio was on the door pocket. They had lots of time to take the center out.
All in all the truck runs good again, but now I have very low tunes.
I guess I'll put the original console back until I figure wha tI'm going to do.
I told the owner what happen when I picked up my truck, he said he will figure out what to do on Monday.
Sorry to hear about your loss....the thievin' bast***ds!
I would trhink that since your rig was in the care /possesion of the repair shop, the shop's insurance would cover your loss. this may or may not be the case in your state but the fact that your truck was not under your control when this happened should have some bearing on the situation.
I just replaced the door lock on my 1990 F-250 Diesel after some one punched it out and went through the truck stealing about 500.00 of various stuff including the Tekonsha prodigy electric brake control.
My insurance co. wouldn't do a thing saying it was covered under my homeowners policy and did'nt clear the deductable . but if they had busted the window it would have been covered under the comprehensive part of the auto ins.
short version... ripped off by the hoodlums first , then by the insurance company. The hoodlums probably thouhgt the brake control was a radar detector since that is what it looks like. I get a chuckle when I think about them trying to figure the thing out.
Hey alpine I watch alot of court tv, why I do not know, but the owner of that shop is liable for your stereo no questions asked. if he does not pay take him to court.
You watch it because its real life and very interesting. Actually can learn alot about what you can get away with in court or not. As he said, that shop is 100% liable for your equipment being ripped. Even if they did post a disclaimer or not, doesn't matter. They are responsible from the time you pull onto their property to the time you leave their property with your vehicle.
I wouldn't get into a verbal dispute with the owner, I would try the calm approach first and then let things take their course. Stay firm and if nothing else works, file a lawsuit in small claims court, shouldn't cost you more then 50-75.00 to do so depending on where you live.
Also, document everything. I mean write down the entire story from the time you decided to use their shop, to the time you found out everything was ripped. How he responded, questions you asked, how he answered, etc etc, you get my drift.
I wish you the best bud, really sorry to hear this happened to you
Good advice, Johnny, but also: keep a daily journal of everything you talk to the guy about. It seems trivial, but a daily journal IS admissible as evidence in court and will back up your side of the story a LOT!
Just another view from a different angle- maybe since the window wasn't busted and there were no signs of forced entry one of the people that work at the shop helped themselves, or called a friend to help themselves. In this day in age you can't be too sure. Anyways I hope that you catch the mother 's who did this.
