I'm fairly new to this site, but I've got two Ford pickups. One is a 94 extended cab F150, but the real reason I'm here is that I own a 1950 F-1 my grandfather bought new. I've had it since 89, when someone offered my grandfather $800 for it. They called to see if that was a fair price, and I said yes, I'll be over with the money. They would have given it to me, but they needed the money so I paid for it. I've gone through the brakes, steering and suspension, and I'm most of the way through the engine now. I've taken a five year break on it, but now that I've bought the 94, my plans for the 50 have changed, as I was just trying to build a usable pickup out of it before, and now it's going to be a nice driver/show truck.
My truck is pretty well loaded, flathead V8, oil filter, heater, factory radio, and two windshield wipers. I've even got a manufactured camper top for it that was factory built sometime in the 50's. It's solid, with a perfect cab, doors, and hood, only a little minor rust in the fenders and bed (it sat in a barn since 78). It's an early 50, with the indented bed sides and a floor shift, and it's Meadow Green. I plan on making some upgrades to make it handle and stop better, as I've already increased the power on it slightly. The original flathead was junk, but someone gave me a free 255 Mercury flathead, so I jumped on that. Anyway, hope I haven't bored everyone, but as I get further into this thing, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions on it.
Welcome aboard. Great story, it's always nice to read the history of a truck. A lot of us wish we knew about our trucks' history. Sounds like a nice truck. Ditto on the pictures.
Welcome to the board. I think its really great that you have a truck and you know some much of the history of it. It sure sounds like you have a great project.
I'll try to get some pictures of it soon, but it's in my parent's shed with the front clip and engine scattered all over the garage and in the bed of the truck. This was one of two vehicles my grandfather never wanted to part with (the other being the 31 Model A that he bought in 37 and my parents now own). He had it repainted in the late 60s/early 70s, and in 64 the engine was replaced with a rebuilt one from Sears. Funny thing was, my grandfather tightened the engine mount down with a pair of Vice Grips, and they were still on the truck when I got it 25 years later!
I just joined myself. I have a 55 effie that I'm working on. The guys on this site are great. Talked with the people at midfifty.com and they told me this is a great site to get questions answered.
Welcome to the board Travis. Great story. Im building a50f1 to so good luck. These fellas around here are pretty smart so any thing you might want to know I'll bet somebody can answer. RUSTY
Yeah we sure do like pics that with your great story will be perfect you came to the right place ask away the questions and no your story aint boring its always good to hear those on here once in a while
I think we're all jealous - your truck sounds to be in better shape (even in pieces) than most of our's were. And a deluxe model too, or at least with many of the optional accessories!
I'd like to see pics of the camper top. That's gotta be something special.
I run a 48 with that 255 merc flathead - you'll like it.
