I recently replace all the ball joints on my '93 2WD. Now it has developed a rattle under the right front. It goes away with the slightest pressure on the brake pedal. I was wondering if the pins that hold the calipers could have loosened up causing the rattle. Any other ideas? Thanks.
I don't hear anything when pushing it up and down...only when hitting several small bumps while driving. When I slightly apply the brakes the rattling stops.
Unless the wheel bearings are real loose then
I would put a good set of caliper slide pins in on. Preferably some Ford ones. I had a set of reman calipers on my 90 f-250 that came with some cheap slide pins that rattled the same way. I installed set of ford/motorcraft and the noise was gone. Don't forget to "lightly" lube them also.
I know it sounds weird but I had a driver side rattle that drove me nuts until I found it on 93 2wd. It was the wheel. the middle part held on by 2 big screws had become very loose and rattled constantly. It really sounded like i was tearing something up bad and i was convinced it was in suspension but i could never find it.
Thanks. I replaced the brake pads about a year ago and can't remember there being any antirattle clips. Maybe they fell out while I was working on it and I didn't notice. If the weather permits I am going to tear into it this weekend. Thanks for all the tips.
Those anti-rattle clips are big...they sit on either side of the caliper....they won't be hard to miss....i just replaced both rotors and wheel bearings, pads and new shocks and upper and lower ball joints on my 94 F150 and there's still a slight rattle on the drivers side. I also inspected the springs and the body mounts and it's all good...it's still a mystery to me.
I didn't raed. but basically it obviosuly is in the breaks.
anti rattle clips suck to install, and are super lamely made.
They break easily, and mine slid out and scratched the inside of my rim up!!!!!
If its not the rattle clips missing, recheck your bearings!
sounds like rattle clips though, or maybe the calipur isn't on tight enough
the rattle clips will come with new rubber boots too. Put them in!! its worth it.
takes a bit to figure out how to easily get them in, but once you figure out the trick, its not to bad.
The more I hear about antirattle clips the more convinced I am that there were none on the truck when I replaced the brake pads last year. Are they available at parts stores or are they dealer items?

Based on the limited info of your vehicle type go here and they have them.
Most auto parts stores have them
They are a pretty generic part for the fords.
Any store should have the kit. comes with some silicone stuff, 4 rattle clips and 4 of the rubber bushings for the newer style calipers.
If you have the older style calipers, you might need to get new pins and rattle clips.
