Anyone here have a F250 HD with a 351W? I would like to know how well it pulls with the 351W. I have a 460 in mine and have a chance to swap it out for a 351. Also will the C6 bolt up to the 351? Thanks
Yes, you need a "small block" C6 for the 351W. I have changed out the internals before from one C6 case to another. Its not that hard. If you want 351 Cubic inches, you could get a 351M engine which would bolt right up to your C6.
Only a personal opinion-if you are pulling a trailer, 351W beats 351M any day. There, that oughta stir things up a bit!
LOL I had a 351M in A big 76 LTD that thing was a Boat and a slug drove great but no take off power and could barely get out of its way. But it was a good car and ran great also very dependable.( I guess I'll get Blasted for this statement)
But I have a 351W lined up for my truck I just need to line a transmission up too.
I would rather install a 351W myself. I only mentioned the 351M if he wanted to keep his C6. Also, it would assume the 351M is rebuilt correctly with all kinds of modifications to keep it from being a dog. I don't want to get into the Windsor vs 335 series argument, I've been there done that too many times.
Ha Ha Mark- I knew I'd here something over this one. My opinion comes from the fact that my brother had an M in his 79 1/2 ton 2wd. Same as the ltd, dependable, but completely gutless.

I agree 100%. I also have been thinking about replacing my 10.25 rear with a 9 inch.
Hi, i have have a 90 f250 hd with the 351w and c6. it does pretty good at towing. i pull our camper and boat both at the same time which is around 6000 lbs. it pulls it, but thats all fairly flat land. what are you going to be pulling and what type of roads?

I'm not using it to haul anything or to tow with it. But the old 460 is worn out 161,000 + miles. The truck working days are over so now it's time to turn it into a daily driver.
oh, sorry i misunderstood you. I think you won't regret a windsor. I my truck is a long bed ext. cab, you know kinda on the heavy side and with the c6 it pulls good.

i have an 85 f250 hd 351 with 160000 plus, aside from minor normal ford issues truck is great and still has plenty of power left, can haul to scrapyard or just drive around town, empty truck is quick for a 5300lb vehicle lugging around a 1 ton suspension, and loaded to hilt as much as 3800lb of scrap, truck loses very little, towing the same just dont expect more than 65 or so without really pushing it...
