I bought a 96 Bronco that needed the trans rebuilt. Well after getting the trans rebuilt and had a trans-go shift kit installed along with a new solenoid pack. Still had no 1st or OD. After some wire tracing found the PCM to be bad. 2nd gear circuit stuck grounded. Problem fixed. Now when the outside temp is under 50 degrees the trans will not shift into OD untill the temp gage hits the first mark in the "normal" zone. Is it working correctly or is there another problem? I know on Benzes there is no OD till a certain temp. I ask some dealer tech, but no one knows.
I had my E4OD rebuilt last year and now I don't have automatic 2nd or overdrive. I have to shift into second manually and don't have any OD. I replaced the shift solenoid and it still doesn't work. Do you have any ideas as to where I can start to troubleshoot this problem? Much appreciated.
i have a 91 5.8 e40d and mine doesnt shift into overdrive until temp is on the normal line. thats not so bad it warms up to that point in about 3 minutes.
My 91 5.0 E4OD shifts into overdrive while cold. There were alot of updates on this trans that are suppose to be performed when they are rebuilt also if I remember correctly the lines to the trans cooler have to be flushed after a rebuild, some even recommend changing the cooler if the trans died altogether. If you do some research online you will find that some shops that sell the E4OD will not warranty them if these changes are not made.
After searching through a Ford powertrain manual I found that there is a trans fluid temp sensor and if the fluid is a certain temp the computer will change shift timing and disable lock-up untill a certain temp is reached. The scan tool showed 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but no lock-up in any gear till trans temp reached 50 degrees. 90EB Bronco sounds like a solenoid pack problem or computer. You would have to find if the trans is getting the command for 2nd or OD. Then if A & B solenoids are turning on and off. I think it goes if A on only that is 1st A&B is second, B only is third, both off will go in to OD. I think that is how it goes, if I am wrong I will post tommorrow and make corrections.
