personally, i'm a classicalist. i think if you came up with a headliner console like frederic's, that'd be a really nice place to mount a cb.
and mustange70, i love the interior, very very sharp, what are those seats out of? they don't look stock for that year. and the shifter... ahhh.... someday... hurry up spring....
First correct guess gets a internet high five their out of a ford something, the driver is full power (lumbar and 6way power ) and passenger is just power lumbar, they are very comfortable, but you have to guess, think mid 90's and well thats it guess
my other truck will be gettin a rollcage and i will be striping it into a tin can, and the stock dash will be yanked and a simple sheet metal or aluminum (which i'll polish ) dash.
I was also thinkin of a headliner console but how do you mount one up??
The interior light mounts on flanges which are part of the roof support, which also helps hold up the headliner. I simpy made a metal plate, using the interior light's base as a template, to drill the holes in the right place. Then I drilled and tapped additional holes that match the overhead console I got from the minivan, and screwed it together.
The front simply attaches to the metal windshield trim on the inside (drilled and tapped), using two screws that go through the overhead console. A dab of paint into the four screwheads and they're barely noticable.
Just wanted to post a reply that will address 2 different people's questions. For an overhead console, check out LMC. Not all of us are as talented as frederick, (I sure wish I was!) and LMC has a headliner that will has a radio mount in it. Last I checked it was about 200 dollars. I want to put one in my 65 and in my 83. In the 83 for a cb, and in the 65 for a stereo. The 65 still has the factory 2 **** radio, and I refuse to cut up my dash for a late model stereo. The headliner I was referring to also has 2 speakers in it too. Hope this helps!!!

I have to wonder how many of those over priced plastic vacuum formed head beaters LMC has sold. I don't know anybody that has one and believe me I know plenty of folk with 20+ year old trucks, and they are all familiar with LMC. Looks like it came right out of the set from the Dukes of Hazzard or Smokie and the Bandit, or about that era. Is that a Convoy up ahead? 10-4 good buddy
Now, grafting a newer Explorer, F-150, or even Cadillac overhead console to match the interior makes good sense to me. If I absolutely had to have a CB radio for some odd reason, I would hide it under the seat or behind the seat and fit only the ones with a remote mike that I could unplug and stash in the console. Now that I'm thinking about it, my 1978 Lincoln Mark V had that very option. The actual CB head unit was mounted inside the trunk under the package shelf.
Obviously I use a cellular phone now and have no reason to hang on to a CB unit. With today's electronics; radar/laser detectors, GPS, and cell phones, who really needs a CB? Heck, frederick took that a step further with his "Global Link" wireless Ethernet.
I'm not bashing anyone who enjoys using a CB, but heck, that is like wearing a tie-dyed t-shirt, bell-bottom jeans to a philharmonic symphony.
If one digs a little further into the LMC catalog, one would discover that modern electronic stereo equipment is made to fit and look like the 30-40 year old AM radio's of the past. They are priced only slightly higher than the creepy headliner unit on the previous pages. So there is no need to hack a virgin dash.

Well excuse me for living there mr. I only said to check it out, not to go and buy it. And as a matter of fact I do know some one with one of these setups, and it came out really nice. It is a hell of a lot better thant the cardboard replacement, thats for sure. Also, there are some of us that do not want to cut up our interior for speaker mounting either. I have looked at the newer radios and I don't happen to like them myself. People come in looking for different ways to fix up their trucks, and we as a group try to show them what options we are familiar with. Who are you to tell us about it looking like something out of Smokey and the Bandit? Nobody said you have to use this product, and don't slam those of us who do. Also, as far as using the CB, there are tons of places that I like to 4 wheel where a cell phone has no service you genius. Thanks to you for ruining a good post though, I sure will not be back. As for the rest of you, I hope this person has not ruined it for you too.
Thanks Cfrives3 I didnt want to be the only person insulted by that post. I personnally want one for a CB for stuff like that too. So if anyone who doesnt feel like bashing us has anything to say about places to mount one or areas to mount them feel free to toss in some ideas.
I like the setup but i have an extended cab plus its way out of my price range. Anyone have anyother ideas or know of another type of headliner?
I have a Supercab too. I was thinking about taking out my headliner and removing the material and making a few mods to the cardboard part to hold extra speakers and a cb then fiberglassing it all then recovering it in new material.
