Hello I have a 93 f-150, 300 mazda 5 speed and this afternoon after filling up with gas I noticed some oil leakage underneath. As far as I can tell the bottom of the oil pan is soaked and the exposed part of the transmission is covered as well. I have been doing lots of snowplowing in low range and I think I may have had it revving a little high would this cause the oil pan gasket to get wrecked or am I looking at a rear main seal. The oil is mainly in the back part of engine and it hardly uses much it has 133,000 km's as well. Tomorrow I will crawl underneath of it and check in the day light.
Probably the rear main seal, even with low miles they'll start to leak just from age. Bought my van with under 50K miles on its 300, but the rear main was leaking already. The stock rubber seals are good for about 10-12 years, after that they start to get hard, shrink, and leak. You've also got cold to contend with where you are. Rubber seals get rock hard at low temps and allow some leakage till the engine heats up.
If you wind up replacing the rear main spend a few bucks more and get one of the teflon seals, they last longer and perform better in cold climates. The seal is only about $35 USD, but the tranny has to come out to replace it. If the leak is minor you could just live with it and keep an eye on your oil level.
Thanks for the input I will keep an eye on the oil level and hopefully it will last a bit the only thing I might be worried about is if any of the residual oil gets on the clutch plate but i am guessing it would really have to be leaking
