I just got a 05 f350 6.0 about a month ago, never leaked oil under the hood looked perfect and i dont mena perfect like someone cleaned it it was genuinly clean, well about 2 weeks ago i was pulling a trailer out of the mud and when i gave it throttle and then let off sudden it made a weird noise under the hood like as if a fan was hitting a shroud (which it definitely is not) or maybe like hitting a rubber floor mat against something, its hard to explain but if youd had the same problem youd know right away, also around the intercooler hose connecting the intercooler to the aluminum pipe on the right side of the truck its a little oily, I still notice this noise if i suddenly lay out of the throttle anytime, and then i see some blue smoke, please help if you can i want to get this fixed, the truck has 70,000 miles on it thanks alot guys!!
The description is that of "turbo fart". Basically the SD's don't have a blow off valve and the pressure has to go somewhere.. So it goes through the intake in the opposite direction when you let off the throttle.
No problems, the truck is working as it should normally.
i have heard this sound before but it was only in a high boost situation and suddenly and completely letting off the throttle. like he said the boost has to go somewhere and the vanes couldn't possible close fast enought to help. so its just best to ease off throttle whenever possible. but if you continuely hear it it could mean stuck vanes also. do you have a aftermarket boost guage?

Heavy assault thank you very much, i feel alot better now, thanks raptor also, no i do not have an after market gauge, i just put in a pod but didnt get a boost for it, is it something i should consider? i would have to mount it else where but i could do that, by the way raptor i have the same exact truck as you describe yours, thats pretty cool. Also, im about to install my pyrometer and i was thinking of drilling the left bank manifold right at the end and threading it there, does that sound like a good spot? thanks alot fellas!!
there is only a small place that you can put an egt probe. the way i located the spot was to get underneathe the truck on the drivers side exhaust manifold lay down looking up at the engine and grab your drill and tap tool and where ever you can get both into and able to move the tap in its full range is where i tapped it.
i relay soley on my aftermarket gauges as the factory dash ones are usually way off and don't really represent what is actually happening. i currently have boost, egt, water temp ,trans temp these give me the basics but once you install them you will see how far from reality the dash gauges are. and it will then teach you what "normal" is for your truck.
good info heavyassult. mine also has the "turbo fart" and like alien, it only happens when im on it hard and then let off fast. also, it seems to do it more at higher altitude?
ok here i go again. any truck with a an aftermarket filter will fart more noticeably than those with a stock filter so if this is your case put the stock unit back on as they are the supreme filter anyway. now, please everyone read carefully. minor farting is normal with stock filter for certain boost situations. now, if you have a stock filter and the turbo farts under a hard accleration and you are stock, then you are having a turbo/egr issue, mainly turbo. the turbos will fart, but you almost have to strain to hear it. if it is so noticeable that you will flinch or it scares you or others who ride, go get it looked at.
Gravity will make most of the shavings fall down to the ground, then you can use a shop vac to try and get the rest. Ever notice that even when you drill downwards that the shavings come back up through the hole. Well when you are drilling up (from underneath the truck) that effect seems to help the shavings fall away from the hole.
Alienmotorsports, do you have an aftermarket air filter system on your truck. You can really hear the turbo fart with one of those on. All the 6.0s make that noise but with the stock filter system on, you can't really hear it unless you know what your listening for. Some of the guys on hear will say they only hear it once in a while, or that thier truck dosn't make that noise, and that you will need to have your turbo rebuilt or replaced. Not true unless you are experiencing other symptoms as well such as white smoke and power loss.
i've got the factory air box and filter on mine and i can still clearly hear it, its never bothered me and i certainly am not experiencing the white smoke or power loss

what if it does this once in a blue moon does it only get worse? and is it a vanes sticking isse or vgt solenoid issue or possibly both?
Yea i do have an aftermarket intake, but i also have a little white smoke every now and then and also it seems like theres some oil in the intercooler because i can see some around the blue hose on the passanger side what do you suppose that means?
The blue hose is pre-intercooler. Have you checked your hose clamps? I think the spec on them is 12 ft/lbs. Some one please correct that figure if its wrong.
