Do the Expeditions have the 4v heads? I'm fiending for a set of 4v heads for my 5.4L. I've looked for months for a set from the Navigator but with no luck. Someone told me the other day that the Expo had them too. Also, if anyone has a set or knows someone who might PLEASE let me know. I'm pulling my hair out here.
Four valve heads were only made available on the Intech motor (Navigator). Can you transplant a set onto a 5.4 block? I'm unaware of any differences in the basic shortblock but have not idea whether it's feasible/reasonable or not.
A lot of work for 40 horsepower. How about some more cost effective modifications?
Only 5.4 the 4v heads came on is the 2000 Cobra "R", Navigator, GT500, and the GT. You will have a hard time finding just the heads, but you can have a salvage yard locate you a Navigator engine, or you can get the FRPP 4valve heads new.
Isn't there an additional chain to drive the additional cam as well? Or is it all linked together? I didn't think you could just swap heads because of that extra chain and crank differences.
Mind you, this is all coming from memory while researching for my Mustang 6-7 years ago!
BTW, I think the 4v was also used in other Lincoln cars like the MkVIII and others. They were all 4.6s though.
Craig, I just looked at your very nice Expedition. Q. Did you do all that work on it? How much $$? Worth it?[/QUOTE]
Yes with exception of the tuning I did it all myself. Since the pictures I added an aftercooler (need to post new pics). I spent about $7k spread out over 2 years and I think it was worth it, every time I step on the gas I get a smile on my face. Rear wheel horsepower went from 175 to 300 or if you take parasitic losses out from 230 factory to about 400 at the crank.

They have one timing chain like the 2v, and the outside cam has a chain run to the insided cam which has to sprockets.
Joey & Slen,
Slen I think you are right. Too much work. I am liking the set up that hohen did. Liking it very much.
Craig,
Since you already did all of the work, and had such great results, I may look to call on you later on to copy, would that be ok? If so you can tell me where you think I should start, which I should do first.
