Anyone know what newer truck is a good donor for a 70's 2wd f100? I currently have 2.75 gears and would like limited slip with 3.00 to 3.55 or so gears.
You probably have a 9" axle but check your data plate codes. You can get multiple ratios in that range with many types of locker or limited slip for a 9" axle.
Torque1st has made a great suggestion for your truck. Most guys are replacing the later model axles for the one you have in yours already. It is a strong, reliable unit. A quality gear change can be accomplished for about the same money as a replacement, once you figure in the time it may take to locate a donor, and switch it out. Disc brake kits are even very easy to find for the 9", and they are getting very inexpensive. You have already a good base for a great axle, just fix / upgrade what you have in there already, you will be happier in the long run.
I am completely clueless when it comes to figuring out an axel. can you guys guide me as to what I would need to do to upgrade my existing one? What costs are involved, etc... The only thing I know is that the existing one is a 2.75 according to tag but don't remember if it is a 9" or not. I hope it is. Where can I find quality parts for them at good or reasonable prices? Thanks guys..........
Also, what is the difference between limited slip and locker or any other kind out there. I need to be schooled on this subject (and many more) lol......
I did read on one of this threads that if the job is not done right it can mean disaster. How difficult is it to get done and what are the odds of getting a good result as opposed to just getting a different axel sealed up from factory?
