Hello
I have a mustang 302/AOD right now but I am going to take the AOD out and put a Mustang T5 with S10 Tail in its place. I dont pull or haul anything with the truck so I feel like it will hold up. My question is how is the best way to hook up the linkage to the clutch? Cable? Hydraulic? Mechanical? Do I use stock pedals or Mustang pedals or any other pedals? any information, suggestions or pictures will be appreciated. I have searched and even though I have found several threads about the swap I really cant find any information on the clutch linkage.
Thanks Again
The old mechanical linkage Top-Loader 4-spd transmissions (like in the early Mustangs) were a push-type linkage. The linkage pushed the clutch fork back.
The T-5 has a pull-type clutch fork with the fulcrum mounted on the right side of the bellhousing (Top-Loader fulcrum is on the left side).
You will either have to run a cable or, a hydraulic clutch master/slave cylinder arrangement.
You will just have to modify your existing clutch pedal to install a cable quadrant on it if you are going to run a cable. If you're going to run a hydraulic clutch, you'll have to modify the clutch pedal to be able to connect the pushrod of the hydraulic master cylinder to it, mount the clutch MC to the firewall and mount the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission to connect to the clutch fork.
The fork window is much longer for the cable style fork movement. I haven't seen a stock T5 recently bit wonder if you could mount a push style pivot and convert it? Might take some special work but not totally unfeasible.
The easier way out is convert to cable using mustang clutch pedal. Or at least duplicate its layout using the stock pedal. Create a raised arm above the pivot point and connect to cable coming through firewall. Use an aftermarket cable and put the adjuster at the fork.
A cable quadrant is available through Mustang Steve's. You would just have to adapt it to your clutch pedal. He also has the bearing kit to convert your clutch/brake pedal hanger from nylon bushings to ball bearings. --for a fee, he will even convert your pedal hanger to the bearing setup if you don't want to do it.
Thanks it seems it would be easiest to use the mustang cable which I am ok with. I was just wondering if it would be possible to use my current pedal and it seems that it will be.
Thanks Guys I appreciate your suggestions
