Here's the problem. When I turn on the air conditioner, the compressor clutch does not engage. I used jumpers and plugged it directly to the battery and it works. I also used a jumper across the pressure switch in the dryer. No luck. I checked the fuse. It is good. Any more ideas? (No voltage to the compressor)
No luck on defrost mode either. I also jumpered the switch on the back of the compressor. Still no luck. I also checked for voltage at all the switches. None. Voltage is however present at the fuse. The fuse looks good. I guess it is the switch. It works fine on the heater modes though. I'll start looking for a switch.
I'm with quicklook2. Either you can spend a bunch of your money trying to fix your A/C yourself and then pay to have it fixed, or you can pay to have it fixed.
BTDT.
Unless you're an HVAC tech or auto A/C repair tech, you don't have the tools to do it. If you don't have coolant in the system, you have a leak, maybe more. They have the tools to find the leak(s) and make repairs. The dye you buy at the auto rip-off store doesn't always work.
I'm not sure how old the truck is but I have an 87 f150 that was using r12. My clutch was doing the same thing because there was no gas in the system. I took it to a shop (on the suggestions of my good friends at FTE), had it retrofitted, vacuumed dry, and recharged for like $150. AC works great now.
