That looks pretty sweet so far! Looks like you have stock in James Duff Enterprises and Advance Adapters / Atlas, too May I ask which particular case you went with, how much invested so far, and what all has been done to it?

thank you for posting my picture. I do have some updated in the last day or so and some more work to do, but I hope to have her up and running my late feb early march. i'll keep all of you posted with that--I'll just be jazzed if it starts and actually works.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

by the way, happyjack, thank you for the information, but i ended up going with the pipe/tube cut to size and inserted in each new body mount. it seems to work. I'm now worried about the force that will be exerted to the grade eight bolts with only this tubing as a sleeve. On the other hand, it would help to know / understand if the sleeve only serves as a guide versus as a support of some kind. <o></o>

Thanks again for your replies. <o></o>

my72ford, thanks. it's been a fun / great thing to do on weekends.

kernal panic: i have a recon engine with new heads. accell injectors, k&n air-intake, centerforce dual friction clutch with centerforce t-bearing, rebuilt fm146 transmission (accurate transmission}, atlas t-case 3.8 gearing, james duff stage 3 suspension lift, dual shock mount and shocks in rear, long link traction bars, 8.8 rear and a dana 35 in the front with an auburn electrical locker in front and auburn limited slip in rear (should've been a locker), 4.11 ratio, custom drive lines front and rear--they're interchangeable, master craft seats, JD bumpers, mile marker winch 9500, i redid the wiring, and some other bell whistle type stuff. It's been something that I do when I have time and money, so it's taken me 3 years and about $10,000. it started out more as a ---i wonder if i can do this-- kind of thing and evolved into something i can't wait to play in. when i finish this one, i want to start on an early bronco--something pre 72 and just build it up, but that'll take a few years on a weekend warrior schedule. let me know if this answers your question. thanks for the interest. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Sounds like a fairly well and meticulously (re)built rig in progress. I sort of figured you had quite a bit of coin into it, doing a body-off build-up. I don't think I'm going to go quite that extreme all at once myself, but I'm wondering if I should and which atlas to put in... I might get crazy silly and put the 4-speed case in... but will probably settle for something a little less extreme or expensive. Thanks for sharing and hope you get 'er done soon so you can enjoy all that hard work and investment!

Thank you, Kernal-Panic. Yeah, it's easy for it to get out of control if you try and do it all in one shot. before this kind of a build (unless you have a lot of cash sitting around) you almost have to accept that it will be 2 - 4 years in the making. There were moments when i could have just gone with part A or waited a bit longer and paid a little more for the better part B--so I would always just wait and in some cases a long while before I rounded up the $$ to get the better brand. It is fun and it keeps me out of trouble ;-)

As far as T-cases, I would go with and ATLAS, hands down. They are in my opinion one of the best out there that has been around forever, is tried and tested a thousand times over every year. They have an application for just about everything with every imaginable ratio. They also have beefier T-cases within their products. The tech support has always been very good when i have called, their web site is awesome, but they are pricey. This is an example of me having to wait and save up rather than settle. <O></O>

I have also heard some good stuff with the Terra T-case (I believe that's the name) and it is also pretty bullet proof, but not as big an operation as ATLAS and a little less in cost with a nice selection of ratios--my buddy has one and it's done well for him and he has 100,000 miles on it and climbing. <O></O>

Assuming that you are running an fm146 or fm145 with a ratio of about 3.72, and assuming your tires are 31s - 33s, I would say go with 4.11 to 4.56 in your diffs, and a 3.8 ratio in your T-case. This will give you a final crawl ratio of about 58 with 4.11 in your diffs and 64 with 4.56s in your diffs. I would say that unless you are going to do some crazy rock crawling, a crawl ratio between 58 and 64 is pretty good and comparable to a Jeep Rubicon edition with all the bells and whistles. I hope this helps. Let me know how your build turns out.<O></O>
