I have a '99 F-150. I have the classic lerching problem when I brake. I notice it at slower speed i.e. about stopped. But I also notice that at higher speeds such as on the highway when I touch the brakes it feels like that back end kind of jumps a little. It is almost like a vibrating sensation. I only get this feeling at higher speed, when I am almost stopped I get the lerching. I have replaced the fron brakes and still have the problem. I plan on chainging the the rear brakes too but could it be something else?? thanks for any help...
I had the same problem on my '97 F-150 following a front brake job. I took it back and had the rotors re-surfaced. It seemed to solve my "lerching" problem.
I have a 1999 F150 2WD. When I am traveling at highway speeds and start to brake the back end starts to vibrate, shudder, and shimmy a lot, as I slow down it turns into more of a pulsating feeling (this all only happens when I am brkaing). I have changed both the front and rear brake and have put new drums on the rear. When I changed the drums I noticed that the driver side Lug plate (plate where my lug bolts are mounted)and assembly moves inward and outward from the axle a little. The passenger side did't do it. After I changed the brakes and drums I still have the problem. Could the extra play in this area be a bad bearing? Could this be causing my problem? Please help, I don't know what to do.
The other post had one reply from user Deebo:
The Axles have end play like that. I would say your tires are out of round.

Grease or oil that was not removed properly with brake cleaner can also cause this problem. Resurface your drums and/or rotors.
