Interesting Tach Issue

Interesting thing happened to me the other day in my 2006 PS.

I was driving home form work and as the tranny was about to shift into high gear at 55mph which would normally have me at approx 1500rpm, the tac dropped way down to 700ish. At first I thought I found a miraculous [higher] gear that I hand't used before, but when I came to a stop the tac was showing idel at approx 200rpm, when it normally is 700.

It was obviously just a tac issue as the engine was sounding and performing as normal. Next straight stretch I hit I put it in neutral and turned off and on which solved the problem.

Anyone have this happen to them?

Probably just an electrical "glitch".

Isn't that what they said just before one of the space shuttles went poof ? I have a similar problem with the tach bouncing to 0 and then the ABS light comes on. It resets by the time Ford looks at it and they won't do anything unless they see the problem. I'm not impressed with their response, as several people have told me it's the sensor on the rear axle. I'm debating now if I'm going to take an extended warranty. What good is it if they won't address the problems?

TSB 06-07-04 pertains to both tach and speedo issues.

I haven't seen the TSB, but mine did it first with both gauges erratic then just the speedo. Took it in the second time with the speedo off 0 when stopped. They have to replace the cluster. Yes, the things are back ordered till later in Feb. They told me there wasn't a TSB out, whatever. They are supposed to keep the truck but they felt they couldn't, do to it being that long for parts. This means that by the time I get the new cluster it will be reading the mileage from when I took it in.
