I wrote in a week or so ago with a Speedometer problem. Plowhand graciously offered some advise, but as usual the problem is not the common problem. My speedo is erratic at speeds above ten mph. I replaced the VSS or rear ABS sensor (depending on who is at the parts counter). Slight improvement, but the problem is not solved. I have a 95 PSD, cruise control (coast mode has been acting up), automatic transmission (4X4), and a Banks Transcommand. Any suggestions.
Check the sensor on the front of the master cylinder (BPA) Brake pedal applied, it is ued by the Cruise contol to de-activate. It may also be the cause of your speedo problems?? Look for corrosion in the connector. It is a normally closed sensor...it opens when brake pedal is applied. This sensor is the subject of a recall and should be replaced anyway.
If it's sliping it's getting hurt (hot) IMO. The questions you asked about the sensors ect won't cause the tranny to slip, usually they just make it shift hard (limp-in-mode).
How's the fluid look?
The cheapest fix for slipping is change the fluid and filter. Be sure to flush the tranny cooler too. But if it's slipping the tranny may need a rebuild IMO.
The tranny locks up fine, no slip. The shift points are a little high (drive to overdrive), but other than an occasional "search" everything seems ok. The tranny fluid is at the correct level and red as it should be. No burnt smell or brown color.
I'll check for wire problems and change the sensor on the master cylinder over the next couple of days. Thanks again for the input.
