Do you have the 97 one in your hand? Can you take out the 96 one and compare the brackets? I know the actual CPS itself is exactly the same. I saw a thread right after I got my 97 which caught my eye because my son has a 96 and we have been working on it for a year now and the thread said the little mounting bracket was different but the CPS itself was the same. So if you do compare them and notice anything let us know. I have a spare CPS from a 96 and I've just been planning on using it on whichever truck needs it first with the specific bracket from that truck. You can twist and wiggle the CPS out of the bracket and switch it into the other bracket easily.

I heard they were identical except for the contacts being coated with different material.

There are two different part numbers but both work just fine. The brackets are the same.

Yup, this is the only difference.
