I have an '03 Escape V6 I bought new and have had virtually no problems with it until a few months ago when the charging system started having an issue. It started "slow cranking" and eventually wouldn't start. After jump starting it, I checked the alternator feed, and it was below 13V. I tested the battery (good) and then tested the alternator, which turned out to be bad. After replacing the alternator (which requires removal of CV half shaft), it was still putting out less than the spec. voltage. With all the doors closed and everything off, I disconnected the negative battery cable and found that something was drawing close to a full amp of current. I pulled fuses until I pulled one that made the current draw drop to normal. It was the stereo circuit. I put the fuse back in and the thing was pulling an amp of current again. I disconnected the stereo and everything was normal again. I replaced the stereo and everything was fine for about 3 months- and then the same problem started to rear its ugly head. This time I caught it early enough and spared my alternator. The current draw with the vehicle closed and off is not nearly as high as before, but still too high. Only disconnecting the stereo makes it go away. Looks like I'm gonna spend a LOT of time tracing down the wiring issue unless anyone out there has any other good ideas. HELP!!!
Sorry to hear about your problem. You will need to post your question in the tech forums since this one is used for introductions. Click on the Forums tab at the upper left and look over the listings. There are a couple you can try. The Electrical Systems/Wiring is a good one and the Audio & Video Systems is another that can be checked out. There is also a forum for your vehicle but you might try the ones posted above.
