I hook up a hose directly to the ported vacuum on the carb, check the timing and it was still way too retarded. I adjust the timing and it runs 100percent better. I don't understand how it passed the inspection with tailpipe sniffer in place. It is hard to work around the inspections these days. VIN number and other info has to be inputted in the computer which i hooked up to some EPA Texas website. Shops don't want to risk it anymore. For F350 trucks, one way is for the inspector to "determine" the overall weight is over something like, 7000lbs and then it is allowed to only do a running test with the sniffer in place, and it won't check for NOx.

But anyway, I can't my truck passed with the timing so out of whack. We all know this testing is politically motivated and is a revenue source. Some states have some strick anti-tampering laws with fines, again, just another revenue generator.

Actually it is quite easy to skirt the law in any state. You enter in the VIN of the one needing inspection, put a new truck on the line or a known good vehicle, run it, sniff it, do what is required....pass! Nothing too difficult about the process, it is done all time on OBD I and older vehicles. Get caught doing it.....whoa!!!! Don't even want to go there....been there done that!

Let it be known that I am not allowed to do any more vehicle smog inspections myself....ever!
