a towing question

I have a fifth wheel trailer that weighs 6500 lbs with a pin weight of 950 lbs. The F150 is rated to haul 9900 lbs. Our plan is to haul from central Canada to Phoenix and leave the trailer there. Is this a doable combination????

Is your F150 rated to haul 9900 lbs, and do you have the remaing GAWR and GVWR on the truck once you load up with people and fuel and stuff. I think you would have to have 5.4, 4.10 rear, with tow package, including tranny cooler, brake controller for this GVWR. If so, then you are good to go. I am not the weight police, but thats a long trip and into some serious heat so be prepared and keep it as light as possible.....

It is rated to haul it with properly equiped vehicles, and no cargo. That is a quote from the max trailer weight, and packages book from Ford. But it also states that that is with a vehicle that came with the heavy duty tow package, and that you are in excess of the vehicles braking capacity, if the trailer is not equiped with its own brakes. Also, if you do not have this equipment, and you destroy the truck, you may have a warranty issue. I know, how will they know? I am sure the holes in the bed will be a pretty good indication. Ford says it can do it, but I would be hesitant, that still is a half ton truck. Take her slow and easy, and make sure you have the proper equipment to haul such a large load. If you are going on this trip, buy groceries when you get to Arizona. Try to do all you can to minimize the weight. Good luck.
