I was reading in diesel world magazine about the 4r100 tranny. it said that the 2wd powerstrokes have the 4r100 and the 4x4 powerstrokes have the 4r100 with pto option. Do all 4x4 powerstrokes have the pto option? How can i tell if mine does? What would this option be used for? Just curious if i have pto capability and if it would ever have any use for me? Thanks
Only trucks with a GVW of 8500 pounds or more can HAVE THE OPTION of having PTO. You will know if you have a big block-off plate on the driver's side of the tranny. They can be 2WD or 4WD, but they gotta' be 8500+ pounds.
I saw somewhere that offers a generator that works off of the PTO...I don't have one but I sure could use the 10000 watt generator and just run the engine...
It would be nice to have a generator but i wonder if it would be cheaper to run just a generator rather than a 7.3 engine? I will just assume that i don't have one till i get under there and check some time. Diesel world made it seem like all 4x4 powerstrokes had the pto tranny. Now i don't have to spend more money on some pto accessory! I have enough parts laying around i need to find time to install and plenty more to order if i ever get around to it. Never enough time in the day!
If I remember correctly (and I probably didn't) someone many moons ago wrote that the fuel consumption of a 7.3 was only about 1 1/3 quart per hour. That is at stock idle. It might be a little higher at 1200 or so whatever the generator neeeded to be run at. I think it would be nice to have the generator built in so I could plug in the 5er and just idle the truck insted of starting the big Coleman 6500 watt generator. But at the race track, who pays attention to that anyway with the cars on the track.... ...sorry for the topic...
