I have a F350 c/c 96 PSD I recently had to take it to a shop because the check engine light was on and the truck was acting like it was de-fueling. They replaced the pcm and valve cover gasket because the valve cover gasket was shorted out and he said he could not scan parts of the pcm. I got the truck back and now when at a steady speed it acts like the tc is disengaging. At 65 mph the tach jumps from 2000 to 2500 and jumps back and forth. I read a thread on the fipl but can’t find anything on the newer version of truck on how to adjust it any ideas or input would be great.
Welcome to FTE.
I would start with replacing the speed sensor on the rear housing. I would also disconnect the batteries for a bit to reset the pcm. Is the OD or CEL light on?
What code did they first get?
trike1946 The OD light is on when i leave it on but the shift does not change if the OD is on or off. It is very speratic. The CEL is not on since the pcm and valve cover gasket have been changed.
fipl is pre power stroke. It was usually confused with a tps. It is on the front of the engine next to the speed sensor. The pre power stroke engines only had sensors connected with the transmission shifting. There were none for the engine. The pcm was only for trans function. A pre power stroke with a stick has none at all. Less problems, easier to fix.
My 96 has the speed sensor on the rear go bad. I also found out that there were problems with the wires from the speed sensor shorting out under the truck. Mine did that too. Did you change yours? Did you reset the pcm?
Does your engine rpms change with the tach? Or is the tach just bouncing around?
While we are talking about E4OD shift problems... i have a 1995 psd with the same tranny and when shifting from second to third it kinda acts like there is a gear between them and doesnt want to go all the way into third until you step on the gas a little bit or start on a decline where it puts less stress on the drivetrain. Any ideas on this?
Well thanks to everyone for your help on this problem. I was pulling the pcm to check the code today and I saw a green wire that had been pulled in two. I spliced the wire back together and everything is working like normal now. I will have to give the mechanic that worked on my truck a call on Monday and let him know. The green wire goes to the big harness of wires that goes through the firewall. I am not sure what the wire is for but I would have to guess it is for something on the transmission.
I have a remanufactured tranny with 120 miles on it. It does the same thing. I also seem to have a problem when it is cold with something bogging down. Feels like a jake brake has been engaged. Get intermittent error messages about cam sensor circuit has an intermittent problem, KAM memory, and exhaust back pressure sensor performance problem. The sensor is new. Any ideas guys?
KAM memory has do to with your pcm. The back pressure valve might be sticking, or the sensor not connected right. You might also have a CPS problem. How old is it? Try unplugging the tuner to see if anything changes.
What are the error code numbers?
