I have seen them for deiselsbut not for a v10 application...I have the short bed with the 28? gal tank.I have seen upgrades to 58 gal but can only find it for deisel.Anyone know if I can use that tank or have a link to someone that makes one for a gasser.
The problem with gasoline tanks is the evaporative emissions stuff and the manufacturer getting certified/cleared for it.
I'm pretty sure there was a maker of gas tanks for these things, but I can't remember who now. Transfer-Flow? But I think someone else said they only make diesel tanks.
I just checked Transfer-flo........$1000.00 for a 46 gallon
I seen the a tread on someone did a 58 for around 600.00(short bed deisel),wich IMO is more reasonable.I would rather make a few extra stops during the week than drop 1000.00 for 18 gals.
Evaporative emissions on gasoline. Not sure about diesel, but I'm sure it's much much different.
For instance, I know large truck diesel tanks have no breather whatsoever - don't need it, either. There's not as much vapors with diesel (if any) and it isn't as flammable as gas vapor.
I'm not suggesting it, nor do I condone it, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to fab something up using the original stuff as a guide. But screwing with that stuff might get you failed in an emissions visual inspection.
Another reason aftermarket might not supply gas tanks? Because of the liability in an accident. I wonder how much of that $1000 goes towards Transfer-Flow's insurance policy?

In Mi we do not have emission inspections...so i am not worried about that...but if the diesel tank can work with a little fab it is worth looking into, the 58 gallon tank would double my capacity.
Keep in mind what happens in an accident, and if that tank, filled with gasoline is not a bomb waiting to go off...
I do understand that...as with any tank, like the aux. tanks in the bed that are basically diamond plate. That 58 gal fit in place of the factory tank, came with a skid plate and hooked to the factory filler....I will try and find the tread in the SD section and post a link
yes it is behind the axel, that would be y my spare is in the back, but could you still not make it work?
yeah.... quik search I found that out,not sure on dimensions of it but I am pretty sure it sits between the frame rails.that would come into play with the d-shaft since the filler neck is in front of axle.
I have been trying to find pics of the top of the diesel and gasser tanks to see the differance.I now venting will not be a problem since it is just the filler neck and cap used for the vent now
The "X" tank is 44gal and sits behind the axle between the frame rails, the filler is near the back corner of the truck....the spare is mounted inside. Probably doable, but a lot to go through for just 16 more gals.
Years ago I made a tank for my '78 Bronco. It mounted in the same place as the original but was much larger. It took 41gal, the original was 33.
