Zf 4x4?

I have a 95 F150 4x4 with the M5OD transmission and would like to swap in a zf 5speed. I currently have a ZF out of an 88 F250 4x2 . What would be involved in converting the ZF to a 4x4 or would I be better off to locate a 4x4 unit?

You should probably find a 4x4 unit. The rear cover is different and I think the output shaft is different as well. It probably could be converted, but that would be quite a bit of work locating the correct parts, taking the transmission apart, etc.

Actually, I don't think it's possible to convert a ZF to 4x4. I think only the automatics can be converted one way or the other and even with them you have to disassemble the whole tranny.

I was actually thinknig about this if i found a ZF. but I like my mazda 5 speed.

I dont see why it is not possible. But you would have to find the coinsideing parts like he says. The mazda parts wont work on the ZF.
I immagine you can use your same transfercase?
