Hey. I need some tips from the frequent mud runners out there. Every time I play in the mud in my truck the bumpers get packed full of mud. Also, mud finds its way behind the wheelwell into the inside of the bedsides (flareside bed). I'm not whining about having to clean up afterwards....But has anyone tried using rubber of plastic or something strategically placed to block mud from getting in the bumpers and all up under the truck...kind of like mudflaps but pinned up in there. If anyone has done this, what material did you use? How did you secure it? Thanks.
never done it but dont seem like a bad idea...however dont you hate when someone rides your a$$? well let a chunk of mud drop out from a month ago.....wont last long
I got some original plastic mud flaps(off of a 80s model truck, the rear wheel well plastic). I then cut it to fit in the space, and there were braces from the frame to each side of the bumper and I cut a slit for the brace to fit through to the middle of the plastic.

This is a crappy example of how it looks. Long lines being the top and bottom, and the things like this \ \ is where I cut to fit to the brace and then cut a hole for the brace to fit in[ ]
Any way, it is 10 times easier to spray the mud off of these plastic flaps, then it is to pull the mud out of the bumper.
I have tried to keep the crap outta places, but it is close to impossible. I had made some flaps to try and do the same thing. Mud still found its way up there, and then I had to unbolt everything to get the trapped mud. The mud usually flies at a pretty good rate of speed, and I run 39.5" Boggers, so the mud is big, and heavy, and usually ripped off anything that I tried to bolt up there anyway. Now I use a coat of cooking oil in a squirt bottle to help keep the stuff from sticking. It has been the best solution I have found so far.
The bumper solution is tube bumpers with sealed ends. Forget the bumpers, try keeping mud out of your starter and cowl vents as that can be the biggest hassle$ of all.
